
All international Albert Heijn fruit and vegetable suppliers with production locations outside the Netherlands, as well as all growers associated with these suppliers, are required to participate in the program. We expect every supplier to take concrete steps toward achieving a higher level of sustainability and ethical business practices by 2030 at the latest.
All Albert Heijn suppliers must sign the Ahold Standards of Engagement and comply with minimum food safety, environmental, and social certification requirements outlined in the Basket of Standards (see image). These measures form the foundation for progressing toward the defined level of ambition.

Albert Heijn has been working closely with many of our international fruit and vegetable suppliers for many years. Through this long-term collaboration, we work together to advance an ethically responsible and more sustainable fruit and vegetable supply chain. Our purchasing strategy is clear: we source fruit and vegetables from as close as possible and from as far away as necessary. Throughout, we emphasize that our products—both in the Netherlands and abroad—are produced responsibly and within the strict food safety standards.
Together with our strategic partner Bakker Barendrecht and our international suppliers, we developed the Positive Produce for People & Planet (PPPP) program. This initiative goes beyond standard certifications by setting higher standards for sustainable agriculture, social responsibility, and environmental performance.

Albert Heijn werkt al jaren nauw samen met veel van onze internationale groente- en fruitleveranciers. Daarbij vinden we het essentieel dat onze producten, zowel in Nederland als internationaal, op een verantwoorde en voedselveilige wijze worden geproduceerd.
